Portraits of Icons A benefit evening conceived and curated by Guglielmo Miani, the young CEO of Larusmiani, together with the Sotheby's Auction House
“Life, Women, Italy”: portraits of women – including Asia Argento, Bianca Balti, Nicoletta Romanoff, Federica Pellegrini, Benedetta Barzini, Ornella Vanoni, Eva Riccobono – who have all reached success and acclaim in their respective fields. The portraits are all painted in acrylic on canvas by the young artist Jo Fabbri, and play a central party of a charity evening for the Umberto Veronesi Foundation, which promotes scientific research and progress. This benefit evening has been conceived and curated by Guglielmo Miani, the young CEO of Larusmiani – the legendary Milanese luxury tailoring brand founded in 1922 – together with the Auction House Sotheby’s.
The works are characterized by strong and vibrant chromatic contrasts and have gone to the block under the guise of the peerless auctioneer, Filippo Lotti, the CEO of Sotheby’s Italia. The highest bid of 3,000 euro went to the tenth, and as-yet unrealized painting by the artist, which went to an anonymous bidder by telephone. This bit of mystery helped contribute to the auction's success and proceeds will be donated entirely to the foundation of Umberto Veronesi, one of the world's foremost oncologists.
Holding flutes of Champagne Cuvée Dom Perignon, Milan's high society mingled among the vintage furnishings from the '50s and '60s in the Larusmiani suite, which took on the atmosphere of a private club. “Art has always inspired fashion,” pointed out Guglielmo Miani. “This initiative pays tribute to the talent and passion that defines the true Made in Italy spirit.”
Among the participants: Terron Schaeffer of Saks Fifth Avenue, the Assessor of Health for the Comune di Milano Giampaolo Landi di Chiavenna, the designer of Larusmiani's new women's collection Liborio Capizzi, Gianluca Passi, Wanda Rotelli of Sotheby’s, Paola Manfrin, Floriana Lainati, and the charming professor Paolo Veronesi (whose presence seemed to delight the women present) was on hand to represent the foundation.
